In September 2015 the ten monasteries of
the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Ireland
invited the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in
Ireland (NBSCCCI) to conduct a review of the Order’s child safeguarding policy
and practice. Today we publish the
findings of the NBSCCCI’s report. We
welcome the report and accept it in full.
We are committed to safeguarding children and to working with the
NBSCCCI to further improve our practice.
We recognise that a lot of children have
suffered as a consequence of abuse by priests and religious. We are truly sorry that abuse happened and
acknowledge the serious harm that was caused to children. Today we pray for all survivors of abuse and
pray that we have learned the lessons of the Church’s past.
